Defending champion Venus Williams has suffered a shock defeat at the hands of her baby sister Serena in the semi-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open Masters in Miami. The younger of the Williams girls stunned her sister with a convincing 6-2 6-2 victory in just 50 minutes. The win was only Serena's second in eight meetings between the pair.
"I was a little bit shocked by the scoreline. It's been next to impossible to beat Venus at this tournament. Venus likes to make a lot of comebacks. I knew she wasn't going to give it to me, I was going to have to win it. This is definitely a very big milestone for me and all the younger sisters and brothers out there," said Serena afterwards.
She will now play either world number one Jennifer Capriati or Monica Seles in the final.
