Davenport set for six-month absence

World number one Lindsay Davenport could be out of action for up to six months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury. Dr Richard Steadman, who performed the operation to rectify cartilage damage to Davenport's right knee, said: "She is likely to make a full recovery, but it will need four to six months of rehabilitation."

Should Davenport require the full six months, she would miss both the French Open and Wimbledon, the second and third Grand Slams of the season. The 25-year-old American suffered the injury during her semi-final match at the Sanex Championships in Munich in November.
