American duo Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams moved into the semi-finals of the Rogers AT&T Cup in Toronto with comfortable victories. Capriati, the top seed, defeated ninth seed Meghann Shaughnessy 7-5 6-4 and will now face 14th seed Anke Huber of Germany in the last four.
Williams, seeded four, routed number 11 Sandrine Testud of France 6-0 6-2 to set up a semi-final encounter with fifth seed Monica Seles. Seles continued her outstanding hardcourt form, rallying for a 1-6 6-2 6-2 victory over the second-seeded Justine Henin.
A four-time champion here, Seles beat 10th seed Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia in a rain-delayed third-round match 6-3 7-6 (7/3) and then went out and defeated Henin. Henin and Huber were the only players who did not have to play twice, having completed their third-round matches before rain washed out play on Thursday night.
Huber saw off the challenge of unseeded American Jennifer Hopkins with a 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 victory to seal her place in the last four. Earlier, Hopkins had upset number seven seed Amanda Coetzer of South Africa in a third-round encounter 6-4 6-3.
