Mauresmo struggles on - Wimbledon round-up

Sixth seed Amelie Mauresmo has gone one better than she did in her native French Open by making it through to second round at Wimbledon but she struggled to overcome opponent Nicole Pratt. The Frenchwoman took the first set on a tie-break but the Australian fought back and levelled matters by taking the second 6-4. However, Mauresmo bounced back from that disappointment to take the final set 6-4.

Belgian Kim Clijsters, the French Open beaten finalist, had little difficulty in beating Italian Giulia Casoni 6-0 6-2 to progress to the second round. Austria's Barbara Schett, the new glamour girl of women's tennis who beat Venus Williams in the first round of the French Open, struggled against qualifier Maja Matevzic of Slovakia before taking the tie 4-6 6-2 8-6 while Nathalie Tauziat, playing her last year on the ladies' Tour, enjoyed a 6-4 6-2 victory over Indonesia's Wynne Prakusya.
