Easy start for top seeds at Wimbledon

The draw has been made for this year's Wimbledon tournament and the top seeds should have little difficulty making it through the first round. Men's champion Pete Sampras will begin the defence of his title against Spanish left-hander Francisco Clavet while second seed Andre Agassi will take on 85th-ranked Peter Wessels of Holland.

In the women's draw, top seed Martina Hingis, who has not lifted a Grand Slam trophy for two years, will play Virginia Ruano-Pascual of Spain. Jennifer Capriati, on course for the calendar Grand Slam after victories this year at the Australian Open in Melbourne and the French Open at Roland Garros, will face the challenge of Venezuela's Maria Alejandra Vento.

Defending champion Lindsay Davenport, seeded third, plays Marina Sucha of Slovakia, while second seed Venus Williams also has an easy opener against Shinobu Asagoe of Japan.

Meanwhile, British number one and sixth seed Tim Henman has been drawn against a qualifer for his first round outing while Greg Rusedski will play Romanian Andrei Pavel. Heman looks to have an easy draw until the quarter-final stages where he is likely to face Sampras who also has a favourable draw. If Heman comes through is first round match, he will face either Gianluca Pozzi or fellow Briton Martin Lee.
