Belgian Justine Henin became the first player through to the French Open quarter-finals today, strolling past Austria's Barbara Schett 6-3 6-4. Schett, who upset second seed Venus Williams in straight sets in the first round, began the match in convincing style, breaking the 14th seed on her opening serve and storming to a 3-0 lead.
But Henin, as cool as the morning conditions, calmly regrouped and swept through the next eight games to take the first set and a 2-0 lead in the second.
Henin, who celebrated her 19th birthday on Friday and has yet to drop a set in the tournament, will now meet 17-year-old Russian Lina Krasnoroutskaya in the last eight. Krasnoroutskaya beat Italy's Silvia Farina Elia 6-2 6-4. (Reuters)
