Jennifer Capriati admitted she feels in good shape as her bid for the French Open continued with victory over Italy's Tathiana Garbin today. The American eased into the third round with a 6-2 6-1 win over Garbin and has yet to drop a set at this year's tournament.
"Clay is not my best surface but I can definitely play on it," said the number four seed. You definitely have to work at it, it takes time. I feel pretty comfortable on the clay." Capriati now faces hard-hitting Croat Mirjana Lucic in the third round.
Meanwhile, 11th seed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario is also on her way home after losing to Amy Frazier 6-1 3-6 4-6. The 29-year-old Spaniard, champion in 1989, 1994 and 1998, was so frustrated with her form during the match that at one stage she threw down her racket. "I'm sad at not being in the tournament any more," she said. "I was very solid in the first set but then I relaxed and made mistakes I shouldn't have. I don't remember the last time I broke a racket but it was after all the tension of the game."
