Tennis: Top women's seeds advance

There were no surprises for the top women seeds as Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati and both Williams sisters advanced at the Ericsson Masters Series in Miami. World number one Martina Hingis demolished Russian Tatiana Panova 6-1 6-2, while second seed Lindsay Davenport progressed with victory over fellow American Lilia Osterloh 6-2 6-0.

And there was little Sandra Cacic could do against third seed Venus Williams, who took just 61 minutes and gave up only four games en route to comfortable victory. Australian Open champion Jennifer Capriati, the fourth seed, crushed Mariana Diaz-Oliva of Argentina 6-1 6-1. Serena Williams, winner last week of the year's first Masters Series event at Indian Wells, also advanced against Iroda Tulyaganova.
