Tom Fannon broke his own Irish record to secure qualification for his first Olympics at the National Championships in June. The 26-year-old competed in the Commonwealth Games for England before making the switch to Ireland, joining the Laser Club in Galway. He is the first Irish swimmer to break the 22-second barrier with his 21.95 time at the 2023 Irish Open

Fannon competed in the World Championships in 2023, where he finished 20th overall in the 50m freestyle. Fannon also was a European semi-finalist in 2023 and at the Olympic trials in May, took another one hundredth off the Irish record (21.94, since bettered by Shane Ryan) to seal his Olympic debut and matched that time again at the Sette Colli International in June.
