Matthew Nelson currently plays for Lisnagarvey and made his international debut as a teenager. Nelson made the move to Australia in 2023 to play for Fremantle. Prior to that the Lisburn native played for German side Krefeld from 2019-2021. Nelson is a qualified PE teacher and works at Grosvenor Grammar School in Belfast.
With Lisanagarvey Nelson has won two European club titles in the last two seasons, including this year's third tier EuroHockey Club Trophy. A key attacker, Nelson scored the first goal when Ireland beat Belgium for the first time ever earlier this year.
