Name: Sean Murray
Event: Hockey (Captain)
Age: 27
Sean Murray from Lisburn will captain the men's hockey team at the Paris Olympic Games. Murray has accrued 140 international caps since his debut in 2015 and has worn the armband throughout 2024. Murray plays full-time for Gantoise in Ghent, who won the Belgian league in 2023 and 2024.
Murray is one of nine remaining players from the unsuccessful Tokyo bid but remains a world-class centre-midfielder. Murray has played in two EuroHockey Championships, the 2018 World Cup, and led Ireland into this year's historic first FIH ProLeague involvement and their two victories over Belgium.
Ireland clinched qualification in Valencia in January this year when they defeated Korea 4-3 in their final match. The hockey squad narrowly missed out on a spot in Tokyo and were last in action at the Games in Rio 2016, where they had one win over Canada and finished 10th overall.
