Name: Cathal Doyle
Event: Athletics - 1500m
Age: 26
Cathal Doyle had an anxious wait to see if he had qualified via the quota system. After racing around Europe chasing either the automatic time or bonus points to improve his ranking, Doyle had done all he could. The Clonliffe Harriers man eventually qualified with two places to spare after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the European Championships in June.
Doyle is a prolific championship racer, having won three national titles in a row, beating opponents with faster personal bests. He represented Ireland at senior level for the first time at the European Games in 2023, where he finished second in the division. His first Irish vest came at the European cross-country championships in 2019, where he ran in the Under-23 race and finished 71st. The Olympics in Paris is his first major senior championships having made a breakthrough in 2023.
In the last month Doyle won both the Cork City Sports and Morton Games mile races, adding to his tally of first place finishes in 2024.
