Kate O'Connor qualified via the quota system by one place, going down to the last day of the qualification period to see if she would make it. O'Connor becomes the first ever heptathlete to make the Olympics for Ireland.
The Dundalk athlete won silver in the Commonwealth Games in 2022 following a successful rise through the junior rankings. O'Connor secured her position for Paris by having her highest scoring competition since her Commonwealth medal winning exploits, in Germany at the end of June.
O'Connor has a degree from Sheffield Hallan University and is doing a Masters in communications and PR at the Ulster University. She is coached by her dad Michael, along with a host of other event group specialists and younger sister Maeve is also a keen multi-eventer.
