Gráinne Walsh booked her spot to Paris at the last chance tournament in Bangkok in early June. The Offaly native, who now boxes out of St Mary's club in Tallaght, missed out on qualification in Milan in March on a split decision, but secured her lifelong dream by beating Armenia's Ani Hovesepyan by unanimous decision in Bangkok.
There was stiff competition for the 66kg spot on the Irish team, Walsh got the nod over Amy Broadhurst, who she defeated in a shock 3-2 split decision at the National Elite Championships in Dublin in January 2023. Walsh has also claimed bronze in the European Games in 2019.
Walsh started her sporting career in soccer, playing for Shamrock Rovers and the Irish Under-17 team before concentrating on boxing, initially with local club Spartacus.
