Dean Clancy secured his spot in Paris by claiming bronze in the 2023 European Games in Poland. The Sligo native has won three underage European medals, most recently Under-22 European gold in 2022, where he won by walkover due to opponent not showing due to injury. Clancy won his first Irish senior title in 2019 four weeks after turning 18.
In the recent European Championships in Belgrade in April, Clancy lost in the bronze medal fight to Azerbaijan's Malik Hasanov.
