Brian Fay of Raheny Shamrock grew up in Glasnevin and is a quadruplet. He attended the University of Washington after studying at DCU, before returning to Ireland to be coached once again by Feidhlim Kelly of Dublin Track Club.
Fay broke the national 5000m record in Belgium last year, running 13:01.40 to take two seconds off the previous record held by Alastair Cragg since 2011.
In 2022 Fay finished eighth in the 5000m at the European Championships. In the 2024 edition Fay couldn't manage as strong a performance finishing a distant 14th in the final.
The northside Dubliner is competing at his first Olympics but coach Kelly has three athletes competing at this Olympics. Fay will also become the first quadruplet to represent Ireland at an Olympic Games.
