Name: Emily Lane

Event: Rugby sevens

Age: 25

There was heartbreak when the women's sevens team failed to make the Olympics in Tokyo, Emily Lane was a part of the squad that missed qualification in 2019 for Tokyo. The Mallow native is now based in Dublin and plays for Blackrock College RFC, which she joined in 2020, prior to that she had predominately played sevens rugby after gaining a development contract in 2018.

Lane has played in 41 matches in the 2023/24 season and scored six tries. She is the fourth most capped player on the Paris squad.

The team qualified in May 2023 with a 10-5 win over Fiji in the fifth-place semi-final of the World Rugby Sevens Series. Qualifying for an Olympics has been a long fought battle for the women's side, narrowly missing out on qualification in the last two Olympic cycles.

The sevens side won their first world tournament at the SVNS Series Cup in Perth in January of this year which bodes well for momentum going into the Olympic Games. The side finished sixth at the SVNS Grand Final in Madrid in June.
