The Shankill native attend Blackrock College and was part of Leinster academies and selected for the under-20 six nations squad in 2020 which was subsequently cancelled due to covid. It was in the year hit by covid that Comerford got his first opportunity to play sevens rugby in Canada.

Comerford played hurling and football at Kilmacud Crokes in his youth, not taking up rugby until his first year at Blackrock College, with whom he won a junior cup. Comerford has taken a career break from his job as a tax expert to concentrate on the Paris Olympics.

Comerford has now played 123 matches and scored 77 points in his sevens career.

The Ireland men have been in consistent form throughout the 2024 campaign, qualifying for the SVNS Championship in Madrid with their highest ever overall finish of second, having been narrowly beaten to the League title by Argentina in Singapore.

The men's sevens team were the seventh squad to qualify for Paris beating Great Britain in the European Games final in 2023.
