Name: Eve McMahon

Event: Sailing - ILCA 6 (dinghy)

Age: 20

Eve McMahon qualified a nation spot for the Olympics in January of this year in Argentina after narrowly missing out following a disqualification at the first qualifying event last year, which meant she had to sail conservatively for the remainder of the regatta.

Being the sole competitor in the senior class for Ireland, her name was submitted to the OFI following nation boat qualification.

McMahon was nominated in RTÉ's young sportsperson of the year award in 2023 and was chosen by Team Ireland to carry the Olympic torch as part of the relay in Marseille where the sailing event will take place.

The 20-year-old has had a successful junior career and retained her Under-21 world championship title in Portugal at the start of July before heading to Marseille for the Olympic Regatta. Despite her young age McMahon has big ambitions and has realistic expectations of making the medal race.

"I have a huge amount of experience even though I'm quite young. I have a huge amount to learn still and I learn from my mistakes quite quickly." McMahon told RTÉ sport last month.

"I think you need to be ambitious in this sport, you have to be driven and you just have to go for it."
