Name: Andrew Coscoran
Event: Athletics - 1500m
Age: 28
The national 1500m champion is the fastest Irishman over the distance in history, ahead of some of the greats of Irish distance running like Ray Flynn, Marcus O'Sullivan and Frank O'Mara.
The Balbriggan native skipped the majority of the indoor season to focus on his preparations for the Olympics, spending time in America, Australia, Spain and Switzerland on training camps.
Coscoran was somewhat of a surprise semi-finalist in Tokyo, eventually finishing 10th, but failed to meet expectation in the European Championships in Rome in June, sitting at the back of the field he finished a distant 13th place. With two championships in one season, peaking for both can be difficult, it could be that all efforts are aimed at the Paris Games and improving on his semi-final finish from 2020.
