Daniel Wiffen won both the 800m and 1500m freestyle at the 2024 World Championships in Doha, where he firmly placed himself as a contender in Paris. He is also the only Irish athlete to win at the World Championships.
The Armagh native competed in both the 800m and 1500m in Tokyo, where his best placing was 14th. Wiffen broke the world record in the 800m free at the 2023 European Short Course Swimming Championships, becoming the first Irish man to hold a world record in the pool.
On his Olympic debut in Tokyo Wiffen set new Irish records of 7:51.65 and 15:07.69 when placing 14th & 20th respectively. He has since torn up the Irish record books and looks set to make more history in Paris as Ireland's first Olympian in the open water 10km event.
