Ellen Walshe broke Michelle Smith de Bruin's 28-year-old 400m IM record at the Leinster championships in May this year, taking over a second off the time from 1996.
The Templeouge swimmer's best placing in Tokyo was 19th overall in the 200m IM and also competed in the 400m IM at just 19. Walshe has two medals from the World and European short course championships from 2021 and 2023.
Walshe was the first Irish swimmer to qualify for the Paris Games, in the 2023 World Championships in Tokyo. She added the 400IM to her list of events for Paris with an impressive 4:38.05 at the Irish trials in June and smashed that two weeks later with 4:37.18 in a stacked race at the Sette Colli International in Italy.
