Name: Thomas Barr
Event: 400m hurdles
Who could forget the Waterford man's sensational performance in the 400m hurdles final five years ago, where Barr grabbed headlines with a fourth-place finish, missing out on a medal by .05 of a second after smashing his own PB.
That performance (47.97) was achieved after an injury-plagued year, and Barr, having enjoyed his first summer off in years, is fit and rearing to go in his second Olympics.
He says it is likely he will need to lower his PB once more just to make it out of his semi-final, and will have his sister Jessie, a former athlete and Olympian, for company in her role as a sports psychologist with Team Ireland.
Set a season's best of 48.39 in June.
