Name: Ciara Mageean

Event: 1500m

Age: 32

Ciara Mageean is hoping to make it into the global medals after winning European gold in June and finishing an agonising fourth at the World Championships last year.

The final will be the first hurdle for the Portaferry woman as she embarks on her third Olympic Games. Mageean failed to reach the final in both 2016 and 2021 but has made significant improvements since that.

In June of this year Mageean firmly placed herself in the history books claiming gold for Ireland in her first ever top of the podium moment as a senior athlete.

Since 2021 she has lowered her personal best and national record to 3:55.87 and has shown with her recent championship record of European gold, fourth in World Championships, European silver and silver in the Commonwealth Games that she is a true competitor that is ready for this Games.

Mageean now holds national record for five events and lowered her own national 800m record in her opening race of the season, running 1:58.51 in her adopted hometown of Manchester.
