Name: Fintan McCarthy

Event: Rowing - Lightweight double scull

Age: 27

Fintan McCarthy only began rowing after the London 2012 Olympic Games. Winning a first national title in 2016, McCarthy's progression saw him make a European final with his brother Jake in 2019.

In the same year McCarthy ended up pairing up with Paul O'Donovan, winning gold at the World Championship in Austria. That success saw the pair book their Tokyo ticket, where they won gold.

Individually McCarthy was sixth in the European Championship lightweight single scull in 2023. Pairing up again with O'Donovan in September the duo won their third World Championship gold. McCarthy had to sit out the European championships in Hungary due to illness. In the World Cup II event after that the duo reunited but had to settle for bronze.
