Aidan Walsh will fight in the welterweight division, having qualified in the last possible qualification tournament in Thailand at the start of June. Walsh has had a remarkable journey since his Tokyo bronze and contemplated retirement in the last 12 months.
The Holy Family Boxing Club fighter had to settle for bronze in Tokyo after breaking his foot celebrating victory in the quarter-finals over Merven Clair of Mauritius and being unable to contest the semi-final.
Walsh travels to Paris as part of the biggest Irish boxing team for Ireland at an Olympics. His sister Michaela is another member of the 10-strong team, where she will contest the featherweight category. The Walsh siblings are one of three sibling pairs on the Irish team bound for Paris.
