Only 23, Shimmins made his debut in 2013 and has already amassed 74 caps, becoming an integral part of the Ireland midfield. In arguably his most valuable cameo, Shimmins won the penalty stroke in the last five seconds which Shane O’Donoghue converted to secure the bronze medal and a 4-2 win over England in the European Championships. He plays with the Pembroke club, but has also headed south for the last two autumn seasons to play in the New Zealand Hockey League.
