Previously a talented exponent of the Tetrathlon (running, shooting, swimming and riding), he took up Pentathlon and received a sports scholarship to an elite sporting school in England, Millfield, where his Olympic dreams have flourished. The 25-year-old Kilkenny man was 25th in London but was a late call-up after a Polish athlete tested positive. His recent results paint a more accurate picture of his Rio credentials: last year he won gold at the European Championships. There is a strong Olympic pedigree in his family too, his great grandfather, James Brady, competed in two Olympics in swimming and water polo.
