Name: Richael Timothy
Event: Track time trial, track pursuit, road time trial, road race
An accomplished former Ireland underage soccer player and a Roscommon footballer, Richael Timothy's sporting career was derailed by an acquired brain injury. It was caused by treatment for a rare condition known as HHT (Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia) which affects veins and arteries.
However, Timothy has reinvented herself as a cyclist. She made her Irish debut in 2017 and won her first international medal at the Manchester Para-Cycling International in December 2019, winning silver in the scratch race.
A year after claiming bronze at the World Track Championships in the non-Paralympic scratch race event in 2020, she finished fourth in the road race and fifth in the time trial at the World Road Championships in Estoril.
