Name: Pat O'Leary
Event: Canoeing - K3
Age: 48
Pat O'Leary will compete in his second Paralympic Games after taking part in Rio and reaching the final, where he finished 6th.
O'Leary had to have part of his leg amputated after an infection failed to clear up, as he explained to RTÉ Sport earlier this year.
"For me there was a lot of isolation around that time, there was a lot of time in hospital, a lot of time at home, which has probably mentally fortified me the last few months.
"I'm nearly 10 years post amputation now, and I never look back, the best decision I ever made."
2021 has already seen him claim silverware, as he took gold in the 200m VL3 class at the European Championships in Poznan
Out of the water O'Leary lectures in Chemistry at NUIG.
