Nicknamed 'Spartacus' by her mother, the Co Cavan powerlifter will be aiming to make an impact in her Paralympic Games debut.
A rising star, who has broken powerlifting world records at junior level, she began taking part in the sport aged 16 in Cork under the tutelage of her coach Ken Hurley who discovered her while she was playing in a wheelchair basketball match.
Arendse, who was born in South Africa and moved to Ireland with her family aged five, will compete in the 73kg category.
