Róisín Ní Riain has claimed bronze in the S13 100m butterfly event at the Para Swimming World Championships in Singapore.
The double Paralympic medallist delivered a strong performance during the morning session, finishing second in her heat to secure a place in the final.
She then improved on her heat time to come third (1:04.47) in a strong field. Ní Riain previously won silver in this event at the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester. She narrowly missed out on the podium at last year's Paralympic Games in Paris when coming fourth.
"I didn't realise how close of a race that was," she said after making the podium on Sunday.
"To be honest I’m happy with it. It’s been a slightly newer event focus for me so hopefully over the coming years I can get better and better."
Making her World Championships debut, Síomha Nic Brádaigh clocked a new personal best in the SM7 200m individual medley, touching the wall in 3:25.82 to finish sixth.
Tomorrow Ní Riain and Nic Brádaigh return to the pool again, this time for the the SB13 100m breaststroke and S7 400m freestyle respectively.
The remaining three members of the Para swimming squad (Deaten Registe, Dearbhaile Brady and Barry McClements) will begin their campaigns on Tuesday.
