Danielle Hill, who broke six Irish records at the recent Europeans in Romania, set another national record in the final of the women's 100m freestyle to win gold on the first day of competition at the Irish Winter Nationals swim meet in Dublin.
Hill's seventh Irish record in the last two weeks saw the 22-year-old Larne swimmer clock 53.03 seconds at the NAC, beating her own four-year-old PB by almost eight-tenths of a second.
Hill had earlier won the 50m backstoke final in 26.67 seconds.
Ellen Walshe, who won bronze in the 400m individual medley in Romania last week, continued her fine form, lowering the 200m IM record she set just six days ago, from 2:08.50 to 2:08.32, claiming gold and her first national title of the week.
Ellie McCartney, who starred in the 200m IM Final in Romania with Walshe, was second in 2:10.98, followed by Ards' Grace Davison (2:15.11).
Evan Bailey of New Ross won the men's blue riband 100m freestyle final in a very quick 47.86 seconds - a new PB for the 18-year-old who is eyeing Shane Ryan's Irish record of 46.68 seconds in a future meet.
Ryan, who just missed out on a medal at the recent European Short Course Championship, was dominant in winning the final of the mens 50m backstroke.
Swimming in his only event at the NAC, he won easily in 23.79 seconds.
Victoria Catterson, who broke the 12-year-old 200m freestyle Irish record last week, won the 800m freestyle in 8:45.37.
In the Men's 800m freestyle, National Centre Limerick’s Denis O’Brien posted the fastest time clocking 8:08.92.
Other winners included Niamh Coyne and Eoin Corby who took victory in their respective 100m breastroke finals.
In two heat declared 200m freestyle relays this morning, victory in the men's race went to the local NAC squad of Mathew Walsh Hussey, Fionn Byrne, Issac Fitzmaurice and Oisin Tebite in 1:32.19.
The women's race was won by UCD's Jena Macdougald, Amy Fitzpatrick, Rececca Lowe and Naomi Trait in 1:47.47.
