Nicole Turner set a new personal best as she finished fifth in the 50m freestyle final (S6) at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester.

Turner had finished second in her heat with a time of 35.01, and she improved on that in the final, coming home in 34.71.

"The aim of that final being so close to that 34 this morning was to go out and bring a 34," a delighted Turner said afterwards.

"To go 34.71, I'm delighted. I’ve been at 35 now since Tokyo so to get a personal best like that I’m really happy."

Turner is in the 100m breaststroke final tomorrow evening.

Barry McClements was also back in final action on Friday, and he also had a big improvement on his heat time as he finished seventh in the 400m freestyle final (S9).

He had swam a 04:32.59 to secure fourth spot in his heat, and he was pleased with the 04:30.58 he posted in the final.

"I’m happy with that," he said.

"I haven’t done any work for that race this year I’ve been focused the 100m swims so it was a bit of enjoyment to go out there and have fun. I attacked the race and paid for it in the end but it was fun."

McClements is in the pool tomorrow morning in the heat of his final event, the 100m backstroke.
