Mona McSharry claimed treble gold on the final day of the Irish Open meet at the National Aquatic Centre.

McSharry won the gold in the 50m,100m and 200m breaststroke. She was just outside the Irish record in the 200m breaststroke winning in 2:25.70.

"Id like to think that the 100 and 200 races will be my priority in the lead up to Paris next year" said McSharry who made the 100 breaststroke final at the Tokyo Olympics.

"Its back to Tennessee now for more build up and I will be back in Ireland later this year to spend my time at the NAC in Dublin and at my Merlin's club in Donegal to see friends and family."

McSharry's win rounded off a successful week for the Irish squad at the NAC, where an Irish senior record fell in the final women’s race of the five day meet as Victoria Catterson dipped below her own best time for the 200m freestyle

Catterson set the old time at the European Championships in Rome last year and she recording a gold medal winning time at the NAC of 1:59.74 cutting point 12 of a second off that time she set in 2022.

Tom Fannon the former GB international swimmer who has switched his allegiances to Ireland swam a time of 22:02 seconds for the men’s 50m freestyle just five hundredths of a second off his own Irish record

Fannon's time is one that's under the consideration time for this Summers World Championship in Japan

It’s the third time this week that Fannon has dropped under a FINA 'A' consideration time for and the amount of Irish swimmers also under the FINA A' standard stands at seven for the Fukuoka meet in August

Olympian Danielle Hill completed a successful five days setting a new championship record of 28.11 seconds to win the 50 metres backstroke

Other winners on the final day of competition at the NAC included Nathan Wiffen who destroyed the 1500m field cutting 10 seconds off his own personal best to win in 15:37.17

Teenage swimmer Jack Cassin (Dolphin) won the final race of the day - the men’s 200me individual medley in a new Irish junior record of 2:03.16.
