Mona McSharry has finished seventh in an ultra-competitive 200m breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
The Sligo athlete, who finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke final on Saturday, clocked two minutes 26.96 seconds, with Switzerland's Lisa Mamie claiming gold in 2:23.27.
Racing out of lane six, McSharry was second after the first 50 metres, and had closed the gap on leader Kotryna Teterevkova of Lithuania at the halfway stage.
However, her challenged faded from there with Mamie taking gold ahead of Italy’s Marina Carraro. Teterevkova claimed bronze.
McSharry returns to the pool on Tuesday morning for the 50m breaststroke event.
