Irish records continue to fall at the LEN European Aquatics Championships as the Mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team shaved over four seconds of the previous record.

Max McCusker, Jordan Sloan, Erin Riordan and Victoria Catterson completed their heat in a time of 3:33.06, bringing Ireland's total new relay records set this week to eight.

On Monday the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay teams began the record-breaking streak, then on Tuesday the Mixed 4x200m freestyle relay was set and broken in the heats and final.

Wednesday saw Ireland’s Olympic relay qualification hopes soar as the Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay broke the national record twice, to finish fifth in Europe.

Finally, on Thursday, the Mixed 4x100m medley relay lowered the Irish record by more than three seconds, and on Saturday it was the turn of the Mixed 4x100m freestyle relay (which is not an Olympic event).

Ireland’s bid to qualify a first Olympic relay team since 1972 comes to a close tomorrow with the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m medley relays.

The Men’s team came into these championships ranked highest of all Ireland’s Olympic relay teams, having finished 14th at the 2019 World Championships in the standing Irish record time of 3:35.23.
