Nicole Turner has claimed Ireland's first medal of the week at the World Para Swimming European Open Championships in Madeira.

Turner won bronze in the SB6 200m individual medley in three minutes 9.57 seconds.

The Portarlington swimmer might have been feeling quietly confident of a podium finish going into tonight’s final, as she finished 20.98 seconds ahead of the fourth fastest swimmer in this morning’s heat.

Turner has history in this venue, in 2016 she brought home two silvers and a bronze, one of which was in the this event.
