Irish diver Clare Cryan has finished eighth in the final of the 1m Springboard competition at the LEN European Aquatics Championships in Budapest.
The Irish senior record holder in both the 1m and 3m Springboard put a disappointing FINA Diving World Cup behind her with a score of 241.60 points in the preliminary round, advancing her to the evening final in joint sixth position with Russia's Mariia Poliakova
The final proved tougher with Cryan scoring 234.30 points to secure an eighth-place finish.
"It was great to get out and compete again this week and have a steady performance," Clare Cryan said.
"The arena has a great atmosphere even without the crowd, so walking out for that final with Europe's best was really special."
The 28-year-old will hope she can experience that feeling again on Saturday when she concludes Ireland’s diving programme in the 3m Springboard.
Tokyo 2021 qualifier Oliver Dingley will be Ireland’s next diver to compete when he lines up for the 3m Springboard event on Thursday.
