Challenging Times: Michelle Smith and the Atlanta Olympics

The times continue to challenge us and here's the latest from our quiz series. The first week of the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 - when Michelle Smith took home three golds and a bronze in the pool - was one of the most tumultuous and dramatic in Ireland's Olympic history.

Ireland had little tradition in swimming and notable structural disadvantages - the lack of a 50m pool being the most obvious - but suddenly we had an abundance of gold and a swimming superstar.

Subsequent events and disclosures would see this triumph pushed to the back of the public's memory.
