Ireland's James Scully swam a season's best time to qualify for the men's 200 metres freestyle S5 final at the World Paralympic European Swimming championships, which got under way at the NAC in Dublin on Monday morning.
Scully finished third in his heat in the opening event in his fastest time since the Rio Olympics which was good enough to qualify for this evening's final in 5th place overall.
"It's my first time properly swimming 200m since Rio," he told Paralympics Ireland.
"I think it's the first time I broke three minutes ever in my career so it's a major positive. I'm into the final now and really looking forward to this evening. It was a solid swim so let's build on that now."
Rio Olympian Nicole Turner is also through to the final of the women’s 50 metres freestyle S6 tonight, and the finals are scheduled to go off the blocks at 6pm.
