Ireland’s Alex Murphy has finished in 13the place overall in the 50 metres breaststroke at the European Championships in London.
Murphy, who qualified in 16th place from the heats in 28 seconds, clocked 27.83 in his semi-final.
Speaking after his swim, the UCD athlete said: “I’m pleased it was a quicker time. I think relaxing into it more meant I could go a bit quicker. I was very disappointed this morning, I think I let it get to me a little bit but I’m still relatively happy with the swim tonight.”
World record holder Adam Peaty of Great Britain qualified fastest in 26.66 for Saturday’s final.
Fiona Doyle, who finished fourth in the 100m breaststroke final, returns to the pool on Saturday for the 50m breaststroke and will be joined in heat four by Sycerika McMahon.
Shane Ryan, Curtis Coulter and Jordan Sloan all compete in the 50m freestyle, while Danielle Hill will compete in the women’s event.
