Irish swimmers Sycerika McMahon and Alex Murphy failed to advance from their heats at the World Aquatics Championships in the Russian city of Kazan on Sunday.

McMahon finished 33rd overall in the 200m individual medley in two minutes 17.88 seconds as Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu clocked a leading time of 2:07.30.

Murphy recorded a time of 1:02.02 in the 100m breaststroke to finish 38th as Britain’s Adam Peaty set a championship record of 59.18 in qualification.
