Nineteen-year-old UCD swimmer Alex Murphy, who qualified for the World Championships in yesterday’s 50m breastroke, was the top qualifier in the men's 100m breastroke heats on day two of the Irish Open swimming championship at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin.

The semi-finals will form part of the day's second session which gets under way at 5.30pm this evening, and also includes the semi-finals of the blue riband event, the men’s and women’s 100m freestyle.

The visiting US College swimmers, meanwhile, are expected to dominate the men’s and women’s 400m individual medley finals as well as the 4x200 freestyle relays.
