Donal O'Neill broke his third Irish senior record of the week, swimming a time of 52.98 seconds in the heats of the Men's 100 metres backstroke at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul today, writes RTÉ Sport's John Kenny.
The 29-year-old Dubliner, who came out of a four-year retirement this season, was 0.45 of a second inside his own Irish record.
However, O'Neill was five places short of making the semi-finals.
Aisling Cooney, Michael Dawson, Grainne and Nuala Murphy as well as Nuala O'Sullivan all failed to make this evening's finals session.
