Swim Ireland have announced a ten-strong squad of four men and six women for the up and coming European Short Course swimming championships write RTÉ sport’s John Kenny.

Veteran Donal O’Neill will lead the men's squad, which also includes Conor Leaney, Steven McQuillan and Michael Dawson for the event which will take place in Istanbul in Turkey from 10 to 13 December

Grainne Murphy, the Irish teenage swimming sensation, who won three gold medals at the European junior championships in Prague in July, is part of the Istanbul bound squad.

Also included are Limerick team-mates Nuala Murphy and Niamh O’Sullivan, Bangor’s Claire Dawson and Olympians Melanie Nocher and Aishling Cooney

The squad is without four US based swimmers, Andrew Bree Barry Murphy Karl Budis and Ryan Harrison who all swam in the world championships in Rome earlier this year.

Ireland will also have men’s and women’s relay squads in Istanbul.
