Andrew Bree was second in the final heat of the 200m Breastroke - the fifth fastest qualifier going into this afternoon's final. Bree's time of 2.09.60 seconds cut almost a second off Michael Williamson's Irish record.
Williamson himself swam in Bree's heat, but the World Student Games bronze medallist was disappointingly outside the top eight. Therefore, it's all now down to Bree, looking to become the first Irish swimmer to win a European Short Course medal.
Bree actually had another swim this morning, helping the Irish men's Freestyle relay squad to a new Irish record.
Stephen Manley, also part of the Irish quartet, finished his meet with an encouraging swim in the men's 200 metres Freestyle, breaking his own Irish record in the process, his second of the week.
The finals at the National Aquatic Centre in Abbotstown, West Dublin, get underway at 3.30pm.
