Two Irish records broken in Lisburn

Two Irish senior records were broken on the final day of the National Swimming Championships in Lisburn. Stephen Manley, the first Irish swimmer to break 50 seconds for the men's 100m freestyle, did it again, clocking 49.47 seconds to cut half a second off his own Irish record. Muiris O'Riada won the 100m butterfly in 54.21 seconds - another Irish record time. Both swimmers have qualified for the European Championships in Dublin in December.

Chantal Gibney, of the University of Florida but representing Terenure, swam 56.60 in the 100m freestyle, beating Julie Douglas's national best this season by four hundredths of a second. The Dubliner smashed Michelle De Brun's 400m freestyle record on Thursday by two seconds, swimming 4:12.05 to ensure her place at Abbottstown in five months time.
