Current Irish 200m backstroke record holder Donal O’Neill, of Blackrock’s Trojan club, on Saturday added to Friday’s 100m Butterfly win and national record with the 200m fly title on day two of the Irish Long Course Championships at the University of Limerick.
Top Irish junior Shane Aherne of Templelogue finished strongly in a time of 2:11.26 to take the 200m Backstroke title from his closest Irish challenger, Phoenix’s Stephen Redmond.
Belfast’s Melanie Nocher doubled up on Friday’s 100m breaststroke crown with the best junior title of the meet and a 2:24.89 in the 200m backstroke.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny’s Michael Donohoe claimed second spot in the 50m fly with an Irish junior record time of 26:00.
