Luo Xuejuan breaks breaststroke record

Luo Xuejuan has broken the women's 50 metres breaststroke world short-course record with a time of 30.47 seconds. The Chinese swimmer won the race at a World Cup meeting in Paris ahead of Britain's Zoe Baker who had set the previous best of 30.51 seconds in Imperia, Italy, on 15 January. American Amanda Bear was third.

In the men’s competition, Dutchman Pieter Van den Hoogenband, Olympic 100 and 200 metres freestyle champion, clinched the 200 metres freestyle in 1:44.49. Elsewhere, Roman Sloudnov cracked his own European 100 metres breaststroke record with a time of 58.08 seconds. The Russian beat his previous best by 0.43 seconds. World record holder Ed Moses took second place.
